Louisa Kouijzer's profile

final major project artist that inspired me

This project is mainly inspired by the influence and love of my father Peter, and the impression his artwork had on me growing up .I can't help but  honour him in my final big photography project .my father was born in Holland in 1959 and from a young boy he was a natural talent with the sketching and painting . my granma used to talk about how he would go  as a young boy into nature  and paint and sketch on his own ,  she described him as a sensitive soul  .
My father never  went to art college until later in his life,  his 40s. everything  he learned, he learned  by watching artists like  bob ross in his youth and practising painting the famous masterpieces in his younger years.
After marrying my mother, carol, when he was working in England in his  twenties .  They created the pottery where they made handmade crockery with funny faces on them,  us kids me and my two brothers daan and paul at the time helping with making contributions to the making of the faces and prepping the clay .
After having worked hard for years  but unfortunately never making ends meet sufficiently,  peter decided to reconnect to his art and he went to college to explore the fine arts . This is when he took us on his journey with him  .He would share alot about all the ways in what would inspire his work and about the subject's art history and what inspired him in his current projects of the time . With his  sketchbook he would talk of his journey through the process of a subject and the materials he used and  he would explore all he could in the subject.  when I read his sketchbooks it was like poetry and philosophy mixed together .
He loved the world of  sculpture too  and his favourite was Alberto giaccometti and within his work you can see his connection of inspiration to his sculpture works.
Peter particularly loved getting lost In his abstract work and if you look at these particular photos and his mini painting at the top you can see what inspired the abstract paintings he did later on In the timeline . I remember him saying in the middle of his paintings process I'm searching looking for something within this abstract kaos and the process . these photo images of  natural world mean alot to me because  In these times when he was back at college practising fine art ,  we would regular paint and draw together and go out to beautiful places in nature and take the easels and paint the field of flowers then afterwards talk about what we painted . I'm always going to miss him  ,  his influence on me will remain always and be reborn in my own art and photography throughout my life and I couldn't ask a for more richer inspiration than my dad and his art to look back on.
